About Zennin Martial Arts Lower Hutt

The Zennin Lower Hutt club started over 25 years ago under another Martial Arts style and changed to Zennin Martial Arts in December 2017.
Our philosophy is that to best contribute to the health and wellbeing of New Zealand and to our communities overall, first we must become the best versions of ourselves.
We do this through exercising our minds and bodies, with friendship and commitment.
Our Badge
The Zennin Lower Hutt badge consists of four main parts.  The Enso (circle), the Torii gate, the Warrior and the Southern Cross stars.
The Enso is the center of Japanese calligraphy, the symbol for Zen.  It symbolizes power, enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe and the void.  The Enso may be open or closed. When the circle is closed, it represents perfection.  An open circle as we have chosen is incomplete, allowing for movement and development as well as the perfection of all things.  Zen practitioners relate the idea of the beauty of imperfection.
For us, the Torii gate represents the transition from the mundane to the sacred.  In our case, each person has an individual journey of their own… to make of it what they wish.
The Warrior kneels in front of the Torii gate, the Warrior is relaxed, still and centered, yet aware, ready and perceptive at the same time.
Finally, the Southern Cross represents New Zealand and the society in which we all live.  It is to this community that we contribute by being good people and having a positive impact on those around us.
